Kvarner Bay is a popular tourist destination with Western Europeans travelling to the Croatian Adriatic Coast. Its largest islands include Cres, Krk, Pag, Rab and Lošinj. Kvarnerić, or 'little Kvarner', is a small group of islands situated between Cres, Krk, Rab and Pag. Visitors often book a holiday rental, holiday home or rent a holiday apartment before setting out to explore the landscapes and villages nearby.
The cultural highlights of Kvarner Bay
Inhabited since the Stone Age, the Island of Rab is known for Zidine, its historic military fortress, as well a geological park, ancient temples and its cosy holiday houses. The largest island in the Adriatic Sea Krk, is a largely unspoilt landscape and the perfect place for a holiday home in the Kvarner Bay Islands. The Island of Pag is best known in Croatia for the delicious Pag cheese which is made from sheep's milk. For nightlife head to the popular Zrce Beach or the town of Opatija, often called the 'Nice of the Adriatic'. Perched on a steep cliff, the medieval fortified town of Mošćenice attracts visitors with its ancient walls, cobbled streets and the Church of St. Andrew the Apostle. Visitors are treated to sweeping views over the islands of Krk and Cres and, after dusk, the city lights of Rijeka.
The natural landscape of the Northern Adriatic
The Island of Cres is defined by its occasionally snow clad peaks, steep cliffs and lush forest. 90 species of bird nest on the island and Cres's Vransko Lake is ideal for a family picnic. Mošćenička Draga has excellent scuba diving along with atmospheric waterfront restaurants, traditional taverns, holiday houses and holiday rentals. Kvarner Bay's islands are lined with miles of cliffs and extensive trails offer panoramic vistas of the entire archipelago. You might encounter deer, lizards, birds and wild horses in the forests of Cres. The island's bay also has a protected reserve for dolphins and a bird sanctuary dedicated to protecting the Eurasian Griffons which nest on the islands of Cres, Plavnik and Prvić.
