Mokko is a cozy little house located in idyllic Kierinki village, which is in a nationally significant landscape area in Central Lapland. Kierinki is one of the few villages saved from the devastation of war in Lapland. There are services like village shop, café, art gallery, private restaurant, small hotel, holiday apartments, program service companies offering nature experiences and snowmobile rental.
112 km to the north from Rovaniemi, 65 km to the southwest from Sodankylä municipality center in Kierinki village milieu.
Wooden house, originally built in 1962, renovated and renewed in 2012. Living room/kitchen with sofa bed, bedroom with 2 motorized beds, second bedroom with bunk bed (2x70cm). Sauna, washroom, separate WC, cellar (access from inside the house) and a covered and partially glazed terrace.
The cabin is heated primarily with electric radiators and an air source heat pump. A wood-burning baking oven and a wood stove are secondary and mainly sources of heat that bring comfort. Guests can use a 7-speed women's bike and a 24-speed men's bike, sport and traditional propeller, poles and snowshoes.
The snowmobile trail network passes through the village shop. There is a fuel sales in the village shop. Therefore, this destination is ideal for snowmobilers. Several other activities available like hunting/fishing and organized excursions (for example snowmobile safaris, dog sledding and fishing trips). Snowmobile safaris and guided ice fishing trips can also be booked from the owner.
The swimming beach, fireplace and lean-to shelter maintained by the village association on Riipijoki, distance 1 km.
The restaurant next to the village shop is a cozy and private restaurant named Hietalan talo, which serves Lappish food in an authentic and atmospheric milieu.
There are also many cultural events arranged in the village.
100 m² artist studio/art exhibition space (for working and holding an exhibition) can be booked from the owner of the cabin. The studio is approx. 500 m from the cabin, near the riverbank, in the middle of the village. The space is heated by electricity, gas and a stove. There is no water pipe, but the owner takes care of the water. Outdoor toilet in the yard.
Hunting: Small game hunting area on state owned lands, 2613 Maunu within 15 km distance. Other hunting destinations 3606 Vasaselkä and 3617 Pomo-Rajala can be easily reached too.
Fishing: Fishing in lakes (including large and fishy lake Unarinjärvi) is usually permitted with fisheries management fee. One fishing rod can be used. More information, Fishing in rapids is also possible. An excellent destination is river Meltausjoki, which starts from the lake Unarinjärvi within 24 km distance. Destination 2561 Meltausjoki.
